Nature & the Power of Manifestation

In the May 2010,  issue of Yoga Journal magazine is a recurring column called “Om.” This one was titled Sustainable Spirit about connecting with the living essence of the natural world.
So I found this quote there:
“If you travel through India outside of a village you might see a tree with threads tied around it. Someone has prayed to the divinity in that tree and made a wish. When the wish is fulfilled the supplicant will come and loosen the thread and bring a worship offering.” This is by Swami Veda Bharati, an author, scholar and teacher who learned Sanskrit and the Vedas from the earliest days of childhood.

Just a few weeks before as I drove in a lovely wooded area, it had come to me intuitively that I should connect with the energy of the trees.  I felt that my (our) ancestors would have had rituals and means of connecting to the trees/plants that provided so much for them.  But having lost that I simply several times asked the trees to speak to each other.  The word brethren, which I just found out means brothers appeared in my mind and I thought—-“speak to your brethren” for me.   And I pictured communication happening for miles and miles via the trees.  I did this there in the car and at other times while walking.  What I felt was that through their roots extending in the earth, they were in communication with one another or simply through their leaves and across the air.
I said, I need a place to live, and thought of some of the important pieces of that desire.  I brought to mind the date I would like to move by, and the fact that I wanted to be surrounded by trees!  And I let it go.  The next important piece is that I then dilgently pursued ways of finding an apartment of course, looked at listings, told friends etc.  After seeing some truly crummy apts. I came home and got clearer on what I wanted, and searched some more, seeing better and better places as I got clear.

So I found a truly wonderful place, one of the best things was the backyard which is lush and just gorgeous.  Within a few days of moving I really spent time outside and saw a massive tree that is a type of willow.  A towering tree it is in a “family” with 3 others of the same type.  They stand in a row dividing property lines.  They have an almost primeval feeling, a Presence.  I felt drawn to the tree that is in my yard especially.  And then it dawned on my that this tree which I naturally referred to as a grandfather tree– it has such a sense of authority to it; this tree in fact feels like it drew me here.  It heard my request through it’s kin. And the syncronicitys’ were communicating that to me.
Why this post today?  Well I drew Mawu this morning an African goddess who means that one should become more involved in helping the environment, or educating about it.  So here is this post.  Please share if you have any related stories. I would love to hear them.  May the earth be well, may she happy and peaceful and grow in harmony.  May we love and respect her, our mother, more and more.
