The folks at Casper mattress, makers of a new bed that they say is “outrageously comfie” got in touch re: yoga poses one could do in bed! I thought what a great idea- and the most obvious one is “shavasana.”  Shavasana is the lovely final relaxation done at the end of every (just about) yoga class.

The benefits are myriad in our go- go culture.  First after yoga it helps the body to really assimilate all the changes the movements and breathe have wrought on the body.  But shavasana, done at night in bed– is also great to help you get to sleep faster.

So I made a guided audio to help you to just that.  Below,  I”ll give an overview of the practice-but of course it’s better to download this and listen to it, I’m pretty sure by the end you will be ZZZzzzz’ssss in slumber land.

Overview of the Guided Relaxation for Insomnia:

Takes 25 min, if done in bed, you will hopefully fall asleep.

  1. Lay down on firm bed, or the carpet.  You want to be warm, as your body will cool down as you relax-this is natural, so put on a light blanket or sweater and perhaps socks.
  2. Test the sound of the audio first, before laying down!
  3. You may want a little pillow under the head, and take a rolled blanket like a sausage or if you have a yoga bolster use either under you knees. This way the knees have a slight bend, and this often is more comfie than straight legs.
  4. Body Position:
    • Come to lying on back
    • Arms away from you side, palms up
    • Feet hip distance apart
    • Head centered, chin slightly tucked in
    • Relax the shoulders down towards the ground
  5. Then simply follow along with the audio!
