Well I wanted to share with you all lovely post by Sara Avant Stover,* a gifted yogini/teacher that I admire. It’s about surviving the “dark night of the soul.” Seems like many folks are going through so much now-in fact many who are quite “spiritual” who seem to have their s—- together! Yet the universe is taking them (me, us) and shaking us up and throwing us down, or so it feels. Lots of transitions, moves, breakups, breakdowns. Lots of inner stress and that’s also mirrored back by the stress the planet is under. We are all One.
I would like to thank one of my meditation mentors Gina Sharpe of NY Insight Meditation for encouraging me and making it possible for me to attend a retreat for people of color last week. It was begun to encourage more diversity at all the retreats, and it has grown tremendously since it’s inception 7 (?) years ago. It was lovely and despite being short (6 days) I realize I went to a deep place and had positive insights; and emotional, mental and physical purification too. The clean, hearty vegetarian food was a catalyst for my clarity and lightness. The more profound catalysts were the silence, the slowing down and the excellent faculty which include Larry Yang, Joseph Goldstein, Gina Sharpe and Spring Washam.
It was held at the Insight Meditation Society, in Barre, MA, check them out. They have retreats ranging from 3 day to 3 month! Don’t try that three month as your first choice! Ok joking, you wouldn’t be allowed to take that as a first timer or even a second timer. Check out a previous post, that give details of what a typical Insight Meditaton/vipassana retreat might be like.
So I’m recommending taking a day, a 1/2 even to do a mini-retreat at home, or even better if you can attend one somewhere near your home. Or just start meditating at home at first for 10 minutes. If you can’t find 10 minutes then you really need to meditate.
IF you have questions, desire an Intuitive Reading or would like help designing a mini-retreat at home contact me via email link below. Namaste.
